MLK

There's nothing better than teaching preschoolers about historical figures. It's like playing the game Telephone- they get the story kind of right, but some of the important details are completely wrong.
We've been learning about Martin Luther King in anticipation of our day off next week to celebrate his birthday. Plus, it just seems like a good idea to promote the idea of peace any chance we get. I know, they're just 4 years old, but you've got to start somewhere.

So, here are some snippets of information and questions about his life,  and ideas of how they can follow his example and spread peace throughout the world, direct from their little minds:

You could make towers with silly string.

His name was Martha Luthra King.

Was he a boy, or a girl?

Was he a king?

His skin color was green. (The picture I showed them was black and white, somehow interpreted as "person of color" meaning the color green.)

You could give your doggie water and treats if his tummy was hurting.

The special prize that he won for spreading peace thoughout the land was probably baby chickens, or a kitty.

You could not fight.

Little girl: Stop trying to take my tiara off my head!
Me: Are you bothering her?
Little boy: Nope. I'm just trying to spread peace!
