If….

Nina, last night from the carseat: Mimi, can you touch stars?

Me: No. They're actually balls of fire. That's why they look like they're twinkling. If you tried to get close to them they would burn you.

Nina: How big is the biggest one?

Me: I don't know. The sun is a star, and it's huge compared to the earth, and there are stars even bigger than the sun. But they're so far away- that's why they look so tiny.

Nina: Well, if they could fall to earth and land in the snow, and if the snow made them cool enough to touch, and if they were small enough for me to pick up, and if I could go out at night and gather up a whole bunch of them,  and if I could bring them inside and if you would let me keep them in my room, I would start a star collection.

Me: If all that happened, I would definitely let you keep them in your room...
