Our rearview mirror conversation, the other day in the car-
Nina: I can't tell you my wishes, or they won't come true.
Me (even though I'm dying to know what she's wishing for): Ok. Then you'd better not tell me!
Nina: I won't. It's only one thing, anyway. The thing that I'm wishing Santa will bring me for Christmas.
Me: Well, maybe you can tell him when you see him.
Nina: I know. But I can't tell you. Even though it's only one thing. I just have to keep it a secret.
Nina (turning her face to the window and whispering loudly): I JUST WANT A PUPPY. A REAL ONE, NOT A PRETEND ONE. THAT'S ALL I WANT FOR CHRISTMAS. I REALLY HOPE SANTA CAN BRING ME A PUPPY. BECAUSE THAT'S ALL I'M WISHING FOR. ONLY ONE THING
Nina: Did you hear what I was just whispering about?
Me: Not really.
Nina: Ok. Good.
