Hat Head

In the last couple of years I have discovered the amazing ability hats have to keep not just your head, but your whole body warm. Something about trapping your body heat, which I guess just floats out of your head otherwise. I have always worn hats because of their ability to make you look cute; I guess with age I'm getting more practical, and not worrying so much about the effect hat-wearing has on my hairstyle, although cuteness is still an important feature. But keeping warm and saving money has become a priority.

We live in a very old house that uses lots of oil to heat in these long New England winters- I'm thinking that we can possibly reduce it by me just putting on a hat instead of turning up the thermostat a few degrees here and there. I usually just throw on any outdoor hat that's handy, or just keep on the one I was wearing when I come indoors (since I wear hats outdoors to keep warm now, too!) But recently, since I'm always on a quest for the perfect article of clothing for a specific thing, I embarked on a house hat hunt. I wanted something soft and fleecy, kind of like sweats for my head. Nothing scratchy like wool, and the color had to be versatile, yet fun.

It was harder than I thought it would be, mostly because the ones that were perfect were Patagonia or North Face and were $40 and up. So, I kept searching and at about my 5th store, I found it, at Marshall's for $9.99. The perfect loungewear hat.

So soft, so fleecy, such a pretty color!!

So, bring it on, winter! I've got my tea and fireplace and blankets and cats to keep me warm. And now I can trap in all that bodyheat with my new hat. Big Al will love me more than ever.
