So, today at school we made maps. I told the kids to draw their house on the left side of a long strip of paper, and our school on the right. Then they needed to draw the roads that people had to take to get them from their house to the school, including landmarks. This was Vanessa's. She's 4. She laid on her tummy on the floor and worked on it for a good half hour. It was about as long as she is.

Vanessa (pointing to drawings from left to right):
Here is my house.
And here is me, getting into my car.
And here is a heart. I'm happy because I'm going to school,
And this is Cat-land.
And this Lion-land.
And this is Dog-land.
And this is Rabbit-land.
And this is our school.
Me:
So, do you drive by a lot of animals on your way to school?
Vanessa: They are all in my imagination. No one else can see them. Only me.
