Nurse, in the pediatrician's office this afternoon: OK. So the Doctor will be in to see you shortly!

Nina, after the nurse has left: Do you think the Doctor likes his sidekick?

Me: Who's his sidekick?

Nina: The nurse.

Me: Probably. She seems nice.  Do you have a sidekick?

Nina: You know you're my sidekick, Mimi!




Tonight in the bathtub, she recited the entire text of In the Night Kitchen, by Maurice Sendak.  I eavesdropped from the hallway, bursting with pride.
