I don't even know how long my book club has existed, but it's something like 18 years. There are 8 of us- most of us have been together from the start. We've read hundreds of books- some great, some not so much. But I don't stay with this group for the books. I stay for the women. We've been through births, deaths, divorces, marriages, kids growing up and doing stupid things and wonderful things, tragedies. (One of the women has a son who broke his neck in a diving accident about ten years ago- he's paralyzed from the chest down.) We all are so different, but have a wonderful chemistry- every one of them is special to me in some way. We laugh a lot, tease each other, are burdened with one another's pain and suffering. It wouldn't be the same if one of them was missing.
These women are a gift in my life. I have a feeling we'll be together until we're old and let ourselves finally go grey.
