The Mystery of Jerry Remy

Tonight we were driving home from the Red Sox game and decided to stop at Bertucci's for some pizza.  We were seated in a half-full dining room- most of the tables along the walls were filled with people, but the ones in the center of the room were all empty.  Except for one-  there was Jerry Remy, finishing up his meal and having a glass of white wine, all alone, as if he was on a stage.  I looked over and we made eye contact and waved to each other.  I sent my husband over to say hi and tell him how much we enjoy him as an announcer and talk about how great today's game was.  He was friendly, but not too chatty.

Jerry has had problems, with illness and depression.  He's been missing games on and off this season.  I've been kind of worried about him.  I was hoping he'd come over and share our pizza with us and I could get to the bottom of his story.... is he depressed? Is he sick?  He owns a hoppin' sports bar around the corner from Fenway Park- why is he sitting alone at Bertucci's, drinking wine?  He's loaded!  (Rich, not drunk.) He knows tons of people!  And if he wanted to be alone, why sit in the middle of the dining room where everyone who knew who he was would spot him?

And, one other thing.... we left the game during the 8th inning.  Jerry had to stay till the end.  How could he already be finishing his dinner when we walked in?

It's all a big mystery.  And it's driving me nuts.
